Be a member of Women In Canoe and compete in the Club Crew World Championships!!!

We are looking to add quality paddlers to our crew, Women In Canoe, for the 2008 World Club Crew Championships in Penang, Malaysia from July 25th to Aug 4th. If you are an experienced female dragon boat or sprint canoe paddler, a USA citizen or a legal USA resident for over three years, and are interested in competing at the premier level of dragon boating, come try out for our crew.

Open tryouts are being held in New York City, and will be comprised of a few parts. The first part is a fitness test (see below for details) and the second is a technical paddling evaluation and OC1 test.

The final crew will be announced in mid June. All the members of the crew may be required to:

• Compete with crew at 3 regattas in Canada and the US
• Participate in key pre-regatta practice sessions in NYC
• Attend 90% practice sessions, if deemed feasible
• For local crew members, join the Women In Canoe paddling club, cost of $150
• For out-of town crew members, pay uniform and regatta fees

An applicant's base fitness will be indicated by results on the following three tests, in this order:

1. Running time trial of 1200m on a certified track
2. Weight testing
• Maximum quality repetitions of bench row, of 40% of body weight, in one minute, also counting repetitions in the last 15 seconds
• Maximum quality repetitions of bench press, of 40% of body weight, in one minute, also counting repetitions in the last 15 seconds
3. Rowing Ergometer (Concept II)
• Time trial of 800m at no tension higher than 6
• Time trial of 200m at open tension
